MUNTAGNA
The MUNTAGNA Project
MUNTAGNA is a future holiday home in Nicolosi, at the foot of Mount Etna.
Right now, it’s still in the design and renovation phase. The house isn’t ready yet, the spaces are evolving, and many decisions are still ahead.
This site exists to tell the story as it unfolds.
Not just the final result, but the thinking behind it: creating a home rooted in Nicolosi, in Etna, and in a slower, warmer, more personal way of experiencing this land.
What MUNTAGNA Is
MUNTAGNA will be a holiday home in Nicolosi, built for those who want to experience Etna without feeling like they’re staying in a faceless rental.
The goal isn’t to create another generic tourist property, but a home with its own character: warm materials, Sicilian details, touches of volcanic stone, functional spaces, and a welcoming atmosphere.
A house to use as a launchpad for Etna, but also a place to come back to.
To better understand the meaning behind the name, read the page on What MUNTAGNA Means.
Where It Will Be
MUNTAGNA is taking shape in Nicolosi, one of the towns most closely connected to Etna’s southern side.
From here, you can head up to the volcano, but you can also live the town: the historic centre, the main square, the cafés and bars, evening strolls, cooler air than Catania, and that distinct Etna rhythm that makes Nicolosi different from a mere stopover.
That’s why location is part of the project.
MUNTAGNA isn’t meant to be an isolated house disconnected from its surroundings. It’s meant to be a base for experiencing both Etna and Nicolosi.
You can explore the town in the guide to Nicolosi, the Gateway to Etna and the Nicolosi Historic Centre.
Where We Stand
The project is still underway.
The house is being studied, renovated, and defined. Some ideas are already clear, others will change as work progresses.
That’s normal — a real home isn’t fully drawn on paper before it exists.
Decisions will need to be made about:
- layout of spaces;
- materials;
- furnishings;
- lighting;
- comfort;
- visual identity;
- details that shape the guest experience.
The opening will only be announced when the house is truly ready.
What We Want to Create
The idea is to build a home that speaks to different ways of travelling.
Part of the project may be more intimate — designed for couples, relaxation, and slow stays.
Another part may work better for families or small groups, with practical, durable, comfortable spaces.
The final form isn’t locked in yet, so we’d rather not promise specifics before their time.
But the direction is clear: MUNTAGNA should be a house that’s beautiful to live in, not just beautiful to photograph.
Why the Site Comes Before the House
MUNTAGNA doesn’t want to appear online only when everything is finished.
This site exists to build the project over time — telling the story as it goes and gathering useful content for those who might one day want to stay in Nicolosi.
That’s why, alongside the pages about the house, we’re creating guides dedicated to Etna, the town, and the experiences you can have from here.
Not generic travel guides, but real content designed to help people understand the place before they experience it.

The Journey Continues
MUNTAGNA is still being built.
Some things are already clear. Others will change as work progresses, because a real home isn’t born all at once: it gets corrected, listened to, improved, better understood as it takes shape.
But the direction is set: to create a future holiday home in Nicolosi that isn’t just a convenient base, but a real part of the experience.
A house to set out for Etna from.
A house to come back to after Etna.
A house inside a real town.
The rest will come together step by step — and it’ll be told right here.
